In recognition of International Women’s Day, I chose to reflect on the experiences and resilience of women. This topic is deeply personal to me because my mother is a survivor of domestic violence, and I witnessed some of those experiences growing up. Research shows that children who grow up in homes where domestic violence is present often carry similar stress patterns and emotional imprints in the brain. These early experiences can shape how we respond to safety, relationships, and conflict later in life. Taking time to pause and process these experiences can help bring awareness, understanding, and the opportunity for healing.
Understanding the Power and Control Wheel
The Power and Control Wheel is a helpful tool used to understand how unhealthy relationship dynamics can develop. It shows that abuse is not only physical, it can also involve emotional control, intimidation, isolation, financial manipulation, and other behaviors meant to dominate or limit another person. Women are often more vulnerable to these dynamics due to social and cultural inequalities. Recognizing these patterns helps validate people’s experiences and reminds us that everyone deserves safety, respect, and a voice. It also affirms that women have the right to express anger when their boundaries or dignity have been violated.
Honoring Women’s Strength and Feminine Energy
Part of healing is reconnecting with our inner strength and feminine energy—the qualities of intuition, compassion, creativity, and resilience that support growth and connection. Through mindfulness and meditation, we can create space to listen to our bodies and emotions, allowing us to reconnect with our authentic selves. When we pause and process our experiences, we can move forward with greater clarity, self-compassion, and empowerment. Honoring women’s voices and supporting their rights helps create healthier relationships and stronger communities for future generations.
